Objectives of the action

The overall objective is to build capacities in Western Balkan countries for sound management of areas of outstanding natural value (AONV) and preservation of their natural resources. Specific objectives that action aims to achieve are:

§      to provide tools for sound management of areas of outstanding natural value (AONV),

§      to educate and train managers, conservation organizations, environmental rangers, tourism associations and local community in topics related to sound management of natural resources and sustainable (eco)tourism in AONVs including raising funds for sustainable management of AOVN,

§      to involve local community in development of (eco)tourism and tourist activities.

§      to increase awareness of local community on opportunities and benefits of living in AONVs including sustainable use of local resources,

§      to increase awareness of wider public on existence of AONV in their neighbourhood and possibility to use natural resources in a sustainable way for the purpose of tourism development



Target group(s)

(i) government administration bodies at lower and higher level of government, (ii) institutions and other organisation specified in nature and cultural heritage protection and management, (iii) conservation policy makers, (iv) environmental rangers (v) tourism association, (vi) local communities, (vii) general public and (viii) relevant environmental and other non-governmental organisations

Final beneficiaries

(i) existing and future public utilities for AONV management, (ii) municipalities, (iii) higher level administrative bodies responsible for nature protection, (iv) local community, (v) tourists/every-day visitors, (vi) tourist associations

Estimated results

§      Tools for sound management of areas of outstanding natural values will be produced

§      AONV managers, conservation organizations, environmental rangers, tourism associations and local community will be trained in topics related to sound management of natural resources and sustainable (eco)tourism

§      Local community will be involved in development of tourist products and activities

§      Awareness of local community on opportunities and benefits of living in AONVs will be increased and more sustainable use of local resources by local communities achieved

§      Awareness of wider public will be increased on existence of AONV in their neighbourhood and possibility to use natural resources in a sustainable way for the purpose of tourism development

Main activities

Activity 1. Development of tools for sound management of AONVs (assessment of needs for tools development, assessment of management practices, development of required tools, training on use of specific tools developed)

Activity 2. Capacity building trainings (Training for managers, Training for environmental rangers, Training for all stakeholders on raising the funds)

Activity 3. Development of local tourist products (assessment of locally made products, selection and development of local products, education workshops for local products manufacturing, connecting manufacturers with selling places)

Activity 4. Awareness raising (introductory workshop on opportunities and benefits related of sustainable management of AONVs and eco tourism development, final closure event, preparation of leaflet, brochures, newsletter, media coverage, web page)

Activity 5. Management and reporting (project management, kick-off meeting, partners’ meetings, the internal evaluation of the project, reporting)
