Inuktitut Language and Linguistics Workshop

The Inuktitut Language and Linguistics Workshop will take place at the University of Toronto on the occasion of Professor Alana Johns’ retirement from the Department of Linguistics. The workshop aims to promote dialogue between linguists and Inuit community based language specialists, with a special focus on promoting language capacity and linguistic insight through collaboration. 

On May 30 the workshop will feature: Invited talks and panels on Inuktitut language and linguistics by linguists and Inuit community based language specialists; A poster session on topics relating to the theme of the workshop as well as topics relating to Alana John's broader research program (e.g. ergativity, noun incorporation and language change); The Canadian Language Museum's exhibit Speaking the Inuit Way.

On May 31 the program will involve presentations and a panel discussion on oral assessment techniques in adult second-language teaching and a facilitated workshop on adapting assessment strategies to adult second-language teaching of Inuktitut.
