Many service providers advertise fast internet connection. Check that you are getting what you are paying for.
A ping will do a test to a remote server to check for information packet loss or drop while in transfer. This will determine your net-work speed and then you can compare it to the service speed you are supposed to receive.
You can use free ping providers for automatic results or manually do it your-self.
Windows version NT, XP and 2000
Step 1 : Click on your start button at bottom. Next click run and then type "CMD" into the box and hit enter.
Step 2: Now type "ping" into the DOS command box. Add a space and enter your service provider domain name or ip address with out the http:// (hyper text transfer protocol) prefix. Press enter.
Step 3: Now analyze the attempts to the remote server address. At the bottom you should see a summary of the number of packets sent, how many packets are received back, and number of packets lost while doing the test.
Check the round trip time for your packets as well. Monitor your maximum and average time in milliseconds. Then you can view any
anomalies.

Restart your router: This can help refresh your connection and fix any issues that may be causing slow speeds.
Check for network congestion: If you are experiencing slow speeds during peak hours, this could be due to network congestion. Try again later or contact your internet service provider for more information.
Update your router's firmware: Outdated firmware can cause a variety of issues, including slow speeds. Check for updates and install them as necessary.
Position your router in a central location: This can help ensure that the signal reaches all parts of your home and that you are getting the best possible speeds.
Connect directly to your modem: If you are using a router, try connecting your device directly to your modem to eliminate any bottlenecks.
Disable unnecessary network connections: Close any unnecessary network connections, such as VPNs, that may be slowing down your connection.
Disable background apps: Some apps may continue to run in the background and use bandwidth, slowing down your connection. Close any apps that you are not using.
Switch to a wired connection: If possible, try connecting your device to your router or modem with an Ethernet cable for faster speeds.
Check your internet plan: Make sure you have the right internet plan for your needs. Contact your internet service provider if you need to upgrade your plan.
Run a speed test: Use a website such as speedtest.net to check your internet speed and compare it to what you are paying for. This can help you determine if there is an issue with your connection.
