Abstract

India is considered as hub of Ayurvedic medicine. The use of that medicine is age old practice in India. But the growth of Ayurvedic industry is not up to the mark in India. The paper aims to find out the current status of Ayurvedic industry in India. It has been observed that Ayurvedic medicine is far behind the allopathic medicine as the demand for the same is less. Only 28% of population prefer Ayurvedic medicine whereas more than 50% prefer allopathic treatment. The study further indicates that in order to promote innovation in this sector, it requires creation of demand by means of education campaign, awareness building etc. The present study also discovered that there is no sufficient legislative provision is available to promote Ayurvedic medicine. The present study highlights the need of creation of Ayurvedic hub as well as private participation in Ayurvedic research.
