Celebrate the 50th Birthday of the Great Teachers Movement... where it was born! The very first Great Teachers Seminar was held at the lodge in Pere Marquette State Park, Illinois, near the confluence of the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers, not far from St. Louis, Missouri. The same lodge will be our venue for the 2019 International Great Teachers Leadership Summit, Tuesday-Friday, May 28-31, 2019. It will be a significant historical and metaphorical experience, simultaneously looking back to our past and forward to our future from the viewpoint of a literal and figurative confluence. The 2019 Summit will be a "working" celebration! The best way to honor this special occasion is to apply the time-tested principles and best practices of the Great Teachers Movement (GTM) to our own continuing development as teacher-leaders, faculty coaches, professional developers, and others who support professional learning, in the same way we utilize the GTM model to help teachers improve their practice. We will also continue our conversation from the 2017 Summit (Lake Geneva, Wisconsin) about carrying the movement forward, sharing its power to innovate, and collaborating to envision the next iteration of the GTM. Meet the 2019 Summit Staff! The GTM model is based on the philosophy that well facilitated shoptalk is one of the highest forms of professional development. No individual "expert" can match the collective knowledge, wisdom, creativity, expertise, and genius of any group of practicing professionals who are actively involved in their work. The participants themselves are the experts at the Summit! The Summit will begin with a Welcome Dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, and will end with a Grab-and-Go Lunch on Friday, May 31.
You will meet with other professionals from different organizations and geographical locations, engage in highly interactive discussions, share successful professional learning strategies and innovations, seek solutions to your own professional learning problems and challenges, and much more (see instructions for Prior Preparation about what to bring to the Summit).
Facilitators will provide structure and guidelines to help assure effective use of our time together, but you and the other participants will decide which issues are most important and relevant to discuss. Together, we will pursue a quest for the ideal of the "great teacher-leader and professional developer." David Gottshall, founder of the National Great Teachers Movement, was enthusiastically planning to attend this Golden Jubilee celebration. Unfortunately, due to health concerns, he will not be able to join us. Nevertheless, we are working on a way to involve him and to thank him! At the International Great Teachers Leadership Summit, we will have great food, great conversation, and even a little free time for some fun around Pere Marquette State Park. You may decide to come early or extend your stay so you can spend more time in the area.
We hope you will join us for this professionally enriching and energizing experience!
SPACE IS LIMITED, so REGISTER NOW to reserve your place at the Summit; then send a check, money order, or pay with a credit card, to secure your registration by Wednesday, April 17, 2019.
