found guilty on insider trading

Jury rules three hedge fund managers
were found guilty monday of insider trading.
Zvi Goffer, his brother Emanuel Goffer and Michael Kimelman
illegally paid for non-public information in order to get a
jump on their competitors, a Manhattan jury found.
The three were caught up in a massive investigation of
insider trading on Wall Street that has lead to 21 guilty pleas - and four convictions.
Prosecutors told jurors in Federal District
Judge Richard Sullivan's courtroom that the Goffer brothers
and Kimelman paid two lawyers more than $100,000 in 2007
and 2008 to get secret information about pending mergers.
Feds focused on the three and their
Incremental Capital group as part of the hedge fund
investigation into one-time billionaire Raj Rajaratnam,
who was found guilty last month and is scheduled
to be sentenced July 29.
"Zvi Goffer may have had a reputation in the hedge fund
world for being ubiquitous, but today he, along with his
brother Emanuel and Michael Kimelman, discovered they
are not above the law," said U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara.
Goffer, 34, who once worked for Rajaratnam, is slated to be
sentenced in Manhattan Federal court in September.
Emanuel Goffer, 32, and former trader Kimelman, 40, are
scheduled to be sentenced in October.
All three remain out on bond and face more than 20 years
in prison.

New Insider Trading Arrests At Schottenfeld Group, Incremental Capital, And Ropes & Gray

This new insider trading bust is not limited to Galleon,
though one of the new 7 to be arrested did apparently
work there.
According to CNBC, which first got the complaint,
there have been arrests at hedge fund Incremental
Capital, the Schottenfeld Group, and the law firm Ropes &
Gray.
In addition to the 7 arrested, there are, it seems, an
additional 7 who have been charged, but not aprehended.
Update: Bloomberg has the full list of names here:
Craig Drimal, who according to court documents worked at
Manhattan-based Galleon, wasn’t an employee of the firm.
Also arrested were Zvi Goffer, Arthur Cutillo,
Jason Goldfarb, Emanuel Goffer, David Plate and
Michael Kimelman.
Charges against the men include conspiracy and fraud,
according to documents filed in New York federal court.
Names of the other seven defendants weren’t immediately available.

This all clearly helped him in bringing to light
the truth behind the 2008 economic crisis.
It has been two years since the stock market
took a tremendous stumble that resulted in
the loss of millions of jobs, homes and trillions
of dollars. The aftermath left many people
wondering just what the hell had happened.
For Ferguson, who has been making films
for the last five years, Inside Job "traces the
rise of a rogue industry and unveils the
corrosive relationships which have corrupted
politics, regulation and academia."
Little known is his background in political
science and policy analysis, that along with
his relationships with many of those individuals
that were involved in the financial meltdown,
he claims certainly helped him enormously
as a filmmaker. It is no surprise then that his
first two works have been political documentaries.
With an unassuming PhD from MIT, he self-proclaims,
"I was a nerd and it helped!"
So we asked Ferguson 'what next?'
"I love thrillers. I would love to make a cool thriller."
Judging by his past credentials we're looking forward
to whatever is on his horizons.
