Science Day

Science Day is an annual event at Innis Elementary where the entire school participates in an all-day science laboratory experience.

The kindergarten class experiences a liquid nitrogen magic show.  In the morning, 1st and 2nd graders rotate through a serious of age appropriate laboratories which includes exploring sound and playing with the gooey substance Oobleck.  In the afternoon, the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders also rotate through laborites; in 2012, these included the energy bike, IR camera, circuits, exploring nitinol and bulk metallic glasses which are novel materials with unique properties.

In this event each classroom is set up as a "laboratory" where students spend 25-minutes working with volunteers and exploring hands-on activities. After their lab experience the students write or draw about what they learned in a "laboratory notebook."

This year, science day is scheduled for Tuesday May 21, 2013.
