Granite School District--Free Computer Classes on Basic Computer Skills and ESL

 
Granite District offers free Computer Skills & ESL classes on a regular basis. The classes are 4 days a week, with 2 hour class segments per day. Two days a week are focused on computer skills; the other 2 days are focused on ESL. Free child care is provided.  For more information call Roberto Alarcon (Cell: 801-671-2724), a former Inner City Missionary that is employed by Granite District as the “class coordinator.”
 

Salt Lake County CAT Labs--Free Computer Training

 
The 4 Salt Lake County Community Access to Technology Lab (CAT lab) locations offer free computer classes focusing on a variety of computer skills. A complete listing of classes taught can be found at their website.   You can also access their website in Spanish. 
Free computer use is also available almost anytime at the Salt Lake County CAT lab locations.

The Copperview CAT lab has computer classes in Spanish.  Call Anabel at 801-559-1563.


Salt Lake City Library System--Computer Classes in Spanish at the Chapman Branch

The Chapman Library often offers computer classes in Spanish.  These classes require registration.  Call the Chapman Library (801-594-8623) or Naomi (a native Spanish speaker who teaches the classes, 801 595-8623) for more information .   


Library Access To Online Computer Training Through Learning Express--Pioneer Library

The Pioneer Library Learning Express Training is an online computer skills training access available FREE to anyone with a Salt Lake County Library Card (also available in all other counties in Utah--check with your public library to learn about access). This is a valuable computer skills learning tool that can be used from any computer that has access to the internet.

To Access the Pioneer Library Learning Express:

1) Go to Pioneer Library http://pioneer-library.org/                                                     


2) Choose Public Library Access

3) Choose Learning Express Library under Features at bottom right

4) Click on Use Your Library Card button on right-hand side of the page

5) Enter your library card barcode

6) Select Computer Skills under the Learning Center of the left-hand side of the page

7) Select the course you want. They have classes in Word, Power Point, Excel and many other programs

**These are online video lessons which also have the audio written at the bottom of the screen.


Library Access To Online Computer Training Through Salt Lake County Library System's Research Room

1)  Go to the Salt Lake County Library website.  http://www.slcolibrary.org/

2)  Click on "Research Room."                                                                                                                       


3)  Click on "General Research." 

4)  Click on "All Resources" in the left-hand menu.

5)  Scroll down to the "U-Z" and click on "Universal Class." 

5)  Create a log in by registering.  (no library card needed, but you do need an email address to register)

6)  From the left-hand menu, choose "Computers & Tech."

7)  There is a large selection of classes including Computers 101, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)

**These online classes provide written lessons, video recording, discussion room, and exams that are graded for each lesson.

1)  Comcast Internet Essentials  http://www.internetessentials.com/

      Families may qualify for Internet access for only $9.99 a month if they meet this criteria:
  • Have at least one child receiving free school lunches through the National School Lunch Program
  • Have not subscribed to Comcast Internet service within the last 90 days
  • Not have an overdue Comcast bill or unreturned equipment
  • Those who qualify may also buy a computer for $150.00
