The 1st IN PhD Student & Postdoc Meeting “Building Neuroscience: The future of a multidisciplinary field” aims to be an annual meeting where doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers have the opportunity to interact, learn and exchange ideas with successful scientists which will present their new findings and share their extensive scientific experience. The field of Neuroscience comprises a vast multidisciplinary research area which overall aims to understand normal and pathological brain function. We have selected two interesting topics for this first meeting, “Genomics and Human Neurological Disease” and “From Synapses to Systems Neuroscience”.  IN PhD Student & Postdoc Meeting will provide doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers the latest research from outstanding scientists and invaluable tools to understand the ins and outs of the future of Neuroscience research.  Furthermore, attendees will have the opportunity for discussing and learning the best ways to propose and manage good projects, and how to succeed at getting funding for projects in an era of limited resources.

When and Where?

This meeting will take place on 18th and 19th February 2016 at the Instituto de Neurociencias (UMH-CSIC) in Sant Joan d'Alacant, Alicante (Spain), a reference in Neuroscience research in Europe and recently awarded with the prestigious “Severo Ochoa 2014” scientific award for Spanish research institutes of excellence.

This 1st IN PhD & Postdoc Meeting was born with the idea of been organized annually, being the first one held in 2016. With around 150 people capacity, 1st IN PhD & Postdoc Meeting attempts to be an open event with free access (previous inscription) to all scientific community members from both national and international Research Institutes and Universities. To encourage doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers to present their research, the meeting will include poster sessions and a total of four short talks for young researchers that will be selected by the organising committee according to the quality of the abstract and its relationship with the topic of the session.  In addition, a prize will be awarded to the best poster and best short presentation that will be supported by private sponsors.

The meeting has been designed to be as interactive as possible, having one colloquium and two round table sessions with the principal speakers and the participation of the rest of assistants. All these activities will allow a close interaction with the invited scientists, paving the way for future scientific collaborations and new professional opportunities for the young research community.
