Painted Redstart - Dauphin Island, AL - April 16, 2011!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RARE BEYOND BELIEF!!!!!!!! This was only the 2nd time in history that this bird has been recorded in Alabama. Just got back from D.I. Saturday night with Gene Koziara (geno k) , Dawn Vornholt (Laney Bird), Phil Hardy (nine primaries) & his wife Myra, Emily Rachel (eRachel11) and Gail Bisson--(capebretondoc)-- I thoroughly enjoyed everyone's company despite the paucity of passerines!!!! We still did manage some pretty darn good images and I am anxiously awaiting to see everyone's TOP 5 that we promised to send to one another- ---- Anyway-------- regarding the Redstart---- It is a breeder in Southern Arizona and New Mexico!!!!!! Some believe it was blown across the country by the recent horrible storm/tornado-filled front that passed thru the US over Fri and Sat. This bird was doing it's normal thing----foraging in the shady canopy of an oak tree---just like in AZ !!!!! MY only wish was that I had gone back to my SUV for a Flash as this was taken at 2000 ISO in order to get some semblance of shutter speed. The Two Lady Physicians who accompanied us on this trip , were using Flash and I am certain got some real 'keepers' . Goes to show you---the Doctor always knows what's best!!!!!! LOL!!! As a post script--- Laney Bird reminded me she was using a FLASH also!!!!!!!!!!! I plum forgot!! Dawn---hope you got some 'keepers of this guy/gal---in this species, they look the same. Enjoy this shot of this beautiful bird---a bit 'soft' due to the 2000 ISO, but nonetheless---a 'keeper'.

Phil: There is something fantastically comforting about waking up every morning, staggering out of your hotel to get a cup of coffee (or at least a fru fru coffee-based beverage) and see the TARDIS. I mean, yes, it probably means that the Earth is in terrible peril and that we're all going to die, but at least the Doctor is probably around to save us. I would like living in Florida a lot more if it involved walking out and seeing the TARDIS. (This, by the way, is a real Police Box.)
