Groups and Related Structures
The MEA, Govt. of India has proposed that all higher educational Institutes under the administrative control of the MHRD, Govt. of India, who have collaborated with Russia may take initiative to celebrate 70th anniversary of India-Russia diplomatic relations by means of organizing academic meetings involving both sides. The Department of Mathematical Sciences, IISER Mohali has several ongoing bilateral projects with research groups in Russia. In view of this, there will be a celebration workshop during December 7-8, 2017 at IISER Mohali that will involve all groups from both sides who are actively engaged in several research projects. Another workshop titled 'Knots, Braid Groups and 3-Manifolds' is also being organized at Sobolev Institute of Mathematics, Novosibirsk, Russia, on July 20, 2017, as a part of this celebration. The ongoing research projects between groups from IISER Mohali and Russia may be tied up by the broad mathematical area of group theory and related structures. The mathematical notion of a group provides the notion of symmetry in other areas of sciences. The aim of the bilateral projects are to investigate internal structures of the symmetry, as well as their application in related mathematical structures influenced by the physical notions of a 'space'. The aim of the workshop will be to disseminate some of these investigations and also to chalk out plans for further research projects. It will involve working groups from each of the India-Russia bilateral projects at IISER Mohali. We hope that this workshop will act as a forum for these groups to exchange ideas and thoughts, and to form a larger network between Indian and Russian mathematicians in the future. There will be talks by several principal investigators in the first day. The second day will mainly be devoted to disseminate research works by graduate students/post docs generated out of the projects. The program is open to all. Those who wish to participate, will have to arrange their own boarding and lodging. A limited accommodation may be available at IISER Mohali campus on payment basis.
