Algal Bloom Hotline

Trained volunteers are standing by, ready to answer questions related to algal blooms.  
Simply call 468-ITOX (468-4869) to report an algal bloom or other suspicious ocean phenomenon anywhere on Orcas Island.  Volunteers will come out, take a sample and work to identify to source of the bloom.

KWIAHT report on San Juan County Water Quality
Below are documents, prepared by KWIAHT that highlight water quality throughout the county.  Included is a study of PCB levels in bivalves collected in Eastsound, including those from Fishing Bay, around Indian Island.  Also included is an analysis of contaminants in freshwater fish and their prey in False Bay Creek, San Juan Island and a list of pesticides and herbicides in current use in San Juan county along with their toxicity levels.
