 NMD - ATM 2015

53rd National Metallurgists’ Day

The 53rd National Metallurgists’ Day (NMD) will be celebrated for four days from 13th to 16th November 2015. The highlight of this year’s NMD will be a one day International Symposium on “Vision 2025 - Global Challenges & Opportunities in Steel Industry” which will be organized on 13th November as a part of the event. Under this initiative, eminent speakers from India and abroad will deliver Plenary Lectures on specific themes.

As a tribute to the important role played by metallurgists in the country’s economic development,the National Metallurgists’ Day (NMD) Awards Scheme, instituted by the Ministry of Steel & Mines, Govt. of India in 1962, presently under the aegis of the Ministry of Steel, Govt. of India, serves to honor distinguished metallurgists and materials scientists of India for their invaluable contributions. The NMD Awards will be presented on 14th November 2015. As a part of the proceedings, the NMD awardees will present the highlights of their work and showcase their technical achievements before the metallurgical community.

The NMD proceedings on 14th November 2015 will also feature enlightening talks from the doyens of metallurgical education and research in the form of Prof. N. P.Gandhi Memorial, Dr. Daya Swarup Memorial and G D Birla Medal lectures. The IIM recognizes and rewards outstanding contributions from Metallurgists, Material Scientists, Professionals, Researchers, Teachers and Students engaged in diverse areas of specialization. The 2015 IIM honors and awards will be presented on 14th November 2015.

69th Annual Technical Meeting

As a part of the annual event, Annual Technical Meeting (ATM) presentations will be conducted on the 15th and 16th November 2015. The scope of ATM shall encompass oral /poster presentations in the following areas:

  • -Science and Technology of Materials
  • -Non Ferrous Metals
  • -Emerging Materials and Processing
  • -Nanomaterials
  • -Advanced Steels for Automotive Applications
  • -Materials for Defence and Aerospace Applications
  • -Advanced Ceramics and Nanocomposites
  • -Steel Products
  • -Rolling Technology
  • -Advanced Materials Characterization
  • -Fatigue, Fracture and Failure Analysis
  • -Energy Conservation
  • -Computational Materials Science
  • -Metallurgical Heritage and Archaeological Metallurgy

The areas given are only indicative and not exhaustive. Students are encouraged to participate in large numbers. An exclusive ’Students’ session’ of two hour duration will be a part of the ATM. Waiver of registration fee,payment of sleeper class train fare and free accommodation may be considered to out station IIM student members selected for this ’Students’ session’.

Call for Abstracts

Abstracts of up to 300 words length, for online submission, are invited from authors for oral and poster presentations in ATM 2015.

Metallography contest
Registered delegates may submit entries for the Metallography contest in one of the following categories:

  • -Light Microscopy
  • -Transmission Electron Microscopy
  • -Scanning Electron Microscopy
  • -Scanning Probe Microscopy

The contestants must carefully choose and specify the category of the entry, which will be unique and final. No reclassification will be done by the contestants or the judges afterwards. The micrographs may be in colour or in black & white. Prizes for best metallographs will be decided on the basis of technical content, aesthetics (visual appeal) and expertise of the technique.
