Welcome to the project "Improving the methods and impacts of agricultural extension in conflict areas of Mindanao, Philippines" (ASEM/2012/063) funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), part of the Australian Government's development assistance program. Within ACIAR the project falls under the Agricultural Systems Management portfolio. The ACIAR Program manager is Dr Jayne Curnow (Jayne.curnow@aciar.gov.au). Below are the research institutions involved in the project:

RMIT University, Melbourne Australia

RMIT is a global university of technology and design and Australia's largest tertiary institution. The University enjoys an international reputation in practical outcome-oriented research.  In particular, the College of Design and Social Context undertakes research and capacity building on key areas of social change and social policy. The College works routinely with a range of community organisations, government departments and local governments.

Landcare Foundation of the Philippines Inc (LFPI)

LFPI is a not-for-profit NGO which has a goal of improving the well-being of poor farming communities through conservation farming and natural resource management. It is the lead agency for the development of the Landcare Approach in the Philippines. It has had a major involvement in previous ACIAR projects, predominantly through the Philippines-Australia Landcare Project and the ACIAR Horticulture Program. In recent years, it has been involved as one of four Philippine agencies in the major CoCoPAL Project (funded by USDA through ACDI-VOCA), where it has been implementing and evaluating new extension and livelihood development programs in Zamboanga and Basilan.

University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB)

UPLB, a public funded academic, research and extension institution, is one of the seven constituent universities of the University of the Philippines System. It is also the national agricultural University in the Philippines with a strong track record in research. It has almost exclusive expertise (within the Philippines public research sector) in agricultural economics.

University of the Philippines Mindanao (UPMin)

UP Mindanao is an autonomous University (one of six) within the same premier public sector university system as UPLB.  By being based in and around conflict zones, it has particular expertise and ample experience in researching (and operating) within these zones. With its previous partnership with Hiroshima University on peace building efforts and in line with its research thrust on Mindanao studies, UP Mindanao is geared towards peace and conflict research.
