Campaign Setting

An Existence

The Impaled Rift takes place on the Planet called Siobhán. A High-Fantasy Middle-Tek (Magitek) setting, that is just before the beginning of the Bronze Age-into-Industrial Revolution. This particular location is Shut off from other spaces, and completely inaccessible by the outside world. As far as anyone is aware on this island (the Impaled Rift), the outside world ceased to exist and existing the rift became impossible, so they have accepted their fates and stayed.

In the year -,4361, seven races sailed from the outside world to find, and explore, an island that is largely uninhabited, aside from local wildlife. The seven races were the Suka, Nujeva, Monova, Aruellia, Sanvar, Tzopoli, and Inwali.

Out of these races five still exist in a form today: Humans (Suka), Drow (Monova), Sea-elves and Wood Elves (Aruellia) Orcs (Sanvar), Dragonborn (Inwali). Unfortunately the Nujeva, and Tzopoli have so-far disappeared, or completely vanished from the Island.

The Aruellia split into two groups, those who claimed a home by the sea, and eventually adapted to sea-fairing (usually were those who partnered with Monova), and Wood Elves, those who left the city and went to the mountains.

The Tzopoli were a Bird-like race, that have not been seen in nearly 3 era, so, as far as anyone is aware, they died off, or hid, or have disappeared).

The Nujeva are closest in appearance to the Modern-Day Tiefling, however, the Tiefling as it exists only does because of a need for soldiers! Those who stayed here either married, and had children, or bonded to this world and decided to make their home here.

About the World

The Void and the Beginning or The Myth of the Sky who loved Life so much

There is a Myth told by some of the older Elven Folk that the body of Siobhán, the great planet on which all live, is held up by the Nixios, the Goddess of the Night Sky. She was so in love with life, that Siobhán gave up her celestial body to produce it for Nixios, not realizing that she would lose contact with Nixios in the process. When the Goddess found out, she gave up all her duties to come and protect the sleeping Goddess until she would rise again to join her in the heavens. But, as her faithful patron, and partner, Nixios made the choice to hold back all celestial events, and people, so that the life being made upon Siobhán's body would grow unhindered.

The Myth of the Great Departure

There is another myth of how Siobhán came to be, and this myth is told in the way that Siobhán gave herself up, so that all of humanity could evolve peacefully without contempt, and without interaction from the Gods. Doing this, she made a pact with the Gods, they would protect her body, and in turn, she would let the subjects thrive, and they would forever evolve into stronger, and more devout peoples every century.

The Great Rift

Siobhán, is both a physical being, and a living goddess. She gave up her eternal and celestial form to become the planet that humanoids and beasts live on today.

Regardless of your culture, she is deified and actively worshiped somewhere within your people. She has two main "speakers" of which take the form of twins (known as St. Prostina and St. Prostiana), gifted with insight of every race they are born into, and with a Birthmark designated by Siobhán.

Eons ago, the Aetorians signed a treaty when Siobhán gave up her body for the sake of humanoids and beasts, they would not interfere or interject on the lives of humanity unless specifically called upon by someone for a purpose. The Chimerans either refused to sign, or broke the contract and twisted into the physical evils they are know as today.

Multiple myths have formed around this area. Some examples of this Great Myth are:

  • The Impaled Rift is the apex of Siobhán, and is the source of Great Magic as She is directly connected to the Heavens through this.
  • The Impaled Rift is the result of a Curse upon the body of Siobhán, and that someone someday will reconnect the being as a whole and She will wake up and all of humanity will be crushed.
  • The Impaled Rift is an area that was cut apart when Siobhán gave up her body for certain Gods to rule over, and that the other Gods found out that signed the treaty and came to help, making a foothold by appearing in person, or as a vessel, to a race of peoples.

No one really knows for sure why the Impaled Rift is disconnected from the mainland, only that at one point, it was a part of the whole world. The Mist around the island is known as “The Fear”, anyone who enters it is likely to wind up dead.

The Moons

It's said that Jehundi and Eaiora were in love so strongly that they created the moons as a bonding feature that would allow them to communicate whenever they needed, and be connected to the Stars stronger. The Moons of Love is a story that they have protector archers, and the archer's bow makes up the moon's dark side. very time each of the moons goes dark, it is one preparing to fire an arrow with a message from One God to the other. Usually a declaration of Love, it takes 4 months for each cycle to complete. Every 4 months when the moons change cycles, a shooting star is seen going between them, no one has been able to explain it yet

The Dwarven War & The Dwarven Pact.

Dwarf Wars

In the Dawn age, in the Era of the First age of all kin existing, the Dwarves went to war over what area they are allowed to control within themselves. This war lasted for a thousand and one years, during this war, there was a mass-attempt to snuff out or slaughter two types of Dwarves, the High Dwarves, and the Red Bloods. The High Dwarves are a group of Dwarves who chose to forgo their Dwarven ways and live among and with the elves, either becoming more elf-like with the introduction of marriage to their society, or becoming one of the elves by joining their culture. The larger population of Dwarves saw this as a threat to their way of life. The other, the Red Dwarves, were Dwarves closer connected to the mountains, or closely connected to the local Infernal, and intermixed with them, creating an entirely new race of Dwarves called "Red Blood", the Dwarves with an innate natural, and uncanny, ability to be magical, and hardy at the same time.

Eventually the fighting stopped. The wars ceased when most of the adjacent races were nearly completely wiped out or driven into hiding. Anyone who made the Dwarven Pact, (which was to bend their knee solely to the Dwarf King, give up their status in Dwarf Society, sacrifice their rights as a Citizen in the Dwarven Central Empire, and swear loyalty to their Dwarven half,) was allowed to move freely within the Dwarven Central Empire. However, if you were caught and not a member of the Pact, you were killed, or jailed, and disappeared.

The unfortunate side-effect of prejudice and fear of the Dwarves against their own people cause in-fighting long enough that the victors erased and rewrote history to tell that the outside people were the one who started it. Not them. And, for the most part, people believe it, too....
