Indian Library Association

The Indian Library Association (ILA) is a premier association committed to the cause of Library Movement and Development in India and represents those who work in or advocate for Indian libraries. ILA has provided a wide variety of services and programs to its members and others in the library community, since its formation on September 13, 1933, when the Association was formally formed at the First All India Library Conference at Calcutta. Today, ILA has become the strongest and largest professional body in the field of library and information science.


International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions

The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) is the leading international body representing the interests of library and information services and their users. It is the global voice of the library and information profession. Founded in 1927 in Edinburgh, Scotland at an international conference, we celebrate our 90th birthday in 2017. We now have more than 1,400 Members in over 140 countries around the world. IFLA was registered in the Netherlands in 1971. The Royal Library, the national library of the Netherlands, in The Hague, generously provides the facilities for our headquarters.


Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University

Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University was established in Lucknow in 1996 as Central University (By an Act of Parliament 1994) with the objects of promoting advance knowledge by instructional and research facilities in science, key and frontier areas of technology and other allied disciplines. This is the Post-Graduate and research University & main objective of this University is to promote professional studies, Inter-disciplinary studies research and development activities. These objectives have started its academic programmes which have employment potential and relevant for the development of Indian Society. At present, eight functional Schools comprise of twenty departments which offer various courses.

 

Department of Library and Information Science

The Department of Library & Information Science is functioning in the University since 1997 with the aim to provide up to date LIS education to the students through effective teaching programmes and practical training. The department is working with the vision to educate individuals for career as librarians, information professionals, archivists, information scientists and knowledge managers. The students are educated and trained in order to undertake instruction, research and service oriented programmes that require current emerging information technological developments and market requirements. The DLIS serving to students from all part of the community through education, research and out- reach programs in Library and Information Science” aspires, to provide education in Library and Information Science through its various programs.

 

Gautam Buddha Central Library

The Central Library was established in January 1998 to promote knowledge and application through its effective dissemination of knowledge and information. The Central Library of BBAU has named as Gautam Buddha Central Library after the name of Lord Gautam Buddha. The Library is governed by Library Advisory Committee body which functions under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor. The library acts as learning resource center of the University to supplement education and information needs of the faculty and students. The Library has been played a key role in generation, preservation and communication of knowledge for education and research of the university.


The city of Lucknow

Lucknow is the capital city of Uttar Pradesh and it has always been a multicultural city. Courtly manners, beautiful gardens, poetry, music, and fine cuisine patronized by the Persian-loving Shia Nawabs of the city are well known amongst Indians and students of South Asian culture and history. Lucknow is popularly known as the City of Nawabs. It is also known as the Golden City of the East, Shiraz-i-Hind and The Constantinople of India.
