Funeral parlor with the environment
Funeral parlor is the last place for bidding farewell. “How was the day which we said good-bye to him…” thinking about the old far-off memories. There are a lot of closed modern funeral parlor, in this one, the nature of Mt. Kannon-yama and the town of Takasaki beneath are engaged with the farewell scenes. To mourn for him who was living in Takasaki city. The attendants look down the familiar town, walk into the farewell room and beside the small garden, and then that moment to say good-bye comes. The ever-changing landscape with the season, weather and the time are layered with the memories of him, furthermore, it is deeply engraved on the mind of people. Because of, not in the urban place, but on the natural mountain, it is possible to engage the silent space of death and the environment with full of living things. As the last place of life, the funeral parlor stands close to beautiful landscape should be the form of architecture for funeral in the future.

環境とともにある斎場
斎場は最後の別れの場所.「あの人を送り出したのは,どんな日だったか…」遠い記憶の中に在る場所に向かって. 閉鎖的な現代斎場が多いなか,この新斎場では,観音山の自然や,眼下の高崎の町が,別れの風景に繋がってゆく.高崎で暮らした故人を弔うため.見慣れた町を見下ろしながら告別室へと進み,小さな庭の隣で別れの時がやって来る.季節や天気や時間で刻々と変化する風景は故人の思い出と重なり,残された人々の記憶に強く刻まれる.都市部でなく,小高い自然の山の上だからこそ,静かな死の空間と,生命の息づく環境を繋ぐことが可能となる.人生の最後の場として,豊かな風景と寄り添う斎場こそ,これからの弔いの建築のあるべき姿では無いだろうか.
