Module III: Statistics and Probability


Dramatic advances in technology have launched the world into the Information Age, when data are used to describe past events or predict future events. Whether in the business place or in the home, as producers or consumers of information, citizens need to be well versed in the concepts and procedures of data analysis in order to make informed decisions.

From Wisconsin Model Academic Standards for Mathematics

Two related content areas are probability and statistics. According to the PRAXIS II Study Guide, these content areas account for 15% of the mathematics component of the Middle School Content Examination and include the following topics.

Probability: Examinees will be able to solve basic counting and probability problems and make predictions involving probability.

Statistics: Examinees will understand the organization, presentation, and interpretation of data in various forms.
