May 2012: Hesaraghatta 55: Loop around the Lake Populaire

The Ride

Hesaraghatta is
a man-made lake in the North-West of Bangalore and one of its greenest spots. This randonnée takes you to the lake and around it in a loop. You'll ride through lovely rural roads which pass through grape farms and mango orchards. The ride is about 55km.

Like a brevet, this populaire is a completely self-supported ride to be completed in a fixed time. A populaire is usually of a distance less than 200K. Note that brevets and populaires are not competitive rides.

Route

Surface: Roads are in good to excellent shape for most of the route. One section of about 1km has a wide sandy dirt road. A 7km section has roads in fair shape, with a very poor stretch for 10metre. Roads are split about 75:25 between narrow and two-laned.

Traffic: Roads have very low traffic, even on SH-39 to Hesaraghatta. However, you may find the occasional heavy vehicle (BMTC buses) on the route. Some roads (about 5km) in the end have medium to heavy traffic.

Terrain: Here is the elevation profile generated from the GPX by utrack.crempa.net for the route:
