Flights and Getting to Puebla

A passport is required for all flights into and out of Mexico.

Puebla is approximately two hours from the Mexico City airport. For most people, it will be advisable and more convenient to fly into the International Airport in Mexico City which is called the Benito Juárez airport (MEX).

Between the Mexico City airport and Puebla, an express luxury bus service is provided by Estrella Roja bus lines with buses departing every hour at a cost of $194 pesos one way http://www.estrellaroja.com.mx/expreso-aeropuerto.php. The Estrella Roja desk in the Mexico City airport is immediately upstairs from where international passengers come out of customs. Go past the fast food area and follow the signs to the Bus Terminal. Be sure to ask for a ticket for “Terminal 4 Poniente” which refers to the station closest to Puebla’s downtown. From there it is just a short taxi ride to the conference hotel.

There is also an airport in Puebla that has direct flights from Houston and from New York City. The airport is small and customs is very efficient. The Puebla airport is about forty-five minutes outside of Puebla, and there are taxis waiting for that flight.

There is currently one Continental Airlines express jet flight daily from Houston to the Puebla airport. This is an excellent option if you need (or want) to connect through Houston.

Aeromexico Airlines also has a non-stop red eye flight from New York’s JFK airport to the Puebla airport. It currently operates three times a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, leaving JFK at 11:50 pm and arriving in Puebla at 4:05 am; the return flight runs Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, leaving Puebla at 2:20 am and arriving at JFK at 7:40 am.
