The Foothill PES Chapter hosted a successful technical presentation from Tribhuwan Choubey of Southern California Edison on, "Cyber Security Issues Impacting Smart Grid Systems". The event was well attended with 18 members which included leadership representation from both Cal Poly and UCR student chapters. Those in attendence were provided with a light meal and beverage, seated comfortably in Bronco Student Center Centaurus auditorium, and were presented with timely information on the importance of maintaining cyber security and how that can be achieved with an increasingly smarter more responsive electrical power grid. Mr. Choubey discussed security architecture, models, and some governing standards. He also responded to various questions on protocols, controls, and daily recorded cyber attacks. We can expect to hear more on this topic in the ensuing months as many utilities and energy management providers role out products and services that place more emphasis on IT and internet access to provide, monitor, and control energy use. A complete copy of his presentation is attached to this post for those of you who were not able to attend. We look forward to more of these types of presentations in the future. Please feel free to comment or ask any questions.
