First, Lets change some hidden options to make firefox faster...
Open Firefox  and in the address bar type: about:config

1.Find browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs and double click on it so it = true.

(This enables advanced tab options in options page. But this string may not be present in some versions of firefox)

2.Find network.http.pipelining  & "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true" and double click on them so it = true

(This will enable pipelining which will be explained next)

3.Find network.http.pipelining.maxrequests double click on it and change it from 4 to 100 (16 to 32 will be optimum if it is above the sites may ban you thinking it's a DOS attack)

(This makes FF use 8 threads to each page. This due to pipelining)

4.right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. In the alert box type"nglayout.initialpaint.delay"and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

Now,that we increased its speed let's make it look better

Firefox has this feature called themes which enable you to change the look of the browser. You can download them at Firefox Add-ons  page.My personal reccomendations are

Noia extreme skin and Blue shift .

You can get your own favourites too from there.

Now,we will make firefox work for us

Firefox also allows users to enhance the features of firefox by adding extensions which also are available at  Firefox Add-ons page. There a numerous number of firefox extensions as any one can write any one of them.My personal favourites are:

Adblock Plus: Removes the annoying ads effectively.

Grease Monkey: It is the mother of extensions. It's like an extension giving rise to extensions. You can get it from here.It is used to develop user defined scripts to change the way the websites are seen in the browser. The user scripts for many websites can be found at the site http://Userscripts.org .You can also make them using the WYSIWYG editor platypus.

Session saver: This extension is helpful in restoring the windows in last crashed session.Firefox 2 has it inbuilt with it.

Stumble Upon : This is a toolbar of the website stumbleupon.com which shows random links suiting user interests.Very nice extension to discover new sites.

Downthemall: An efficient download manager for firefox.

Noscript: A strict extension in execution of scripts.

Forecastfox:  Shows the climate conditions in different places of world refreshing for every 2 minutes.

MR Tech Local Install: To manage your extensions and themes.

There are many more extensions of firefox that are useful. It depends on the person. You have 2 explore yourself for it

Some more hacks of firefox

The purpose of this hack tries to keep Firefox from USING up your physical RAM and instead puts the burden on your hard drive. To implement it follow the following procedure:

1.In a new tab type about:config and enter

2.Right click anywhere in the page and select new->Boolean.

3.In the alert box type “config.trim_on_minimize” without quotes and hit enter.

4.In the following box select "true" and enter.

Now,after  restarting  the browser you can observe the RAM usage decreases  when  window is minimized.

This hack may not be useful to everyone as the decrease here is less and what it does is disables the caching of oldpages thereby making the time same for viewing an already seen page rather than decreasing it.The procedure is

1.In a new tab type about:config and enter.

2.Find “browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers” and instead of the -1 setting, change it to 0 and hit Enter.

3.Restart the browser.
