It is essential for our students to become strategic, independent readers. This is especially true as they make the transition from learning how to read to and emphasis on reading to learn. Students must obtain and then integrate effective strategies that ensure an understanding of the written text required in the content areas. This session focuses on research-based literacy strategies that build independent readers who can successfully comprehend the required reading. By integrating these effective literacy strategies, all teachers can also help students meet the state standards in reading and writing.
