Relationship building and networking is a critical success factor in the hospitality industry.  These students are more apt to be connected to the internet through various devices and look to multi-task.  In preparing our students for the ‘real-world’ we, as faculty, have to become familiar with these social media related tools.  We need to ask ourselves, how can faculty use the connectivity of the Internet to connect with students outside of the classroom to expand upon the learning process.  During the workshop session, participants will be introduced to ways that the Hospitality Program at Mount Ida College has used Web2.0 tools, focusing on Facebook, Skype, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

The presenter will show and discuss examples of how Web2.0 tools are used in various examples throughout the hospitality program and assist in the celebration of communicating and networking.  This session is suggested if you are looking to develop and or enhance your use of technology in your program in order to connect with students.

With each tool we will explore the following questions:

  • What is it?
  • Why would I use it?
  • How can I set it up?
  • How will my students use it?
