Clara Peters Qualifies For Short Programme At 2011 European Figure Skating Championships
With an impressive performance to "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini", Clara Peters (19) has succeeded in advancing to the Short Programme of the Ladies event at the 2011 European Figure Skating Championships in Bern, Switzerland.
"I can't believe I qualified. I've been skating well and knew I had a chance, but this result has exceeded my wildest expectations."
Peters skated eighth on Tuesday morning in the qualifying round and after the first half of the competition she was leading with a score 65.70 points. In the second half, seven competitors earned higher marks, but Peters easily qualified in eighth place. She was one of the few skaters to perform with very few errors.
"The rink is very cold and so is the ice, so I told myself that I couldn't deal with falling! Everything with my training seemed to click this year and I trained hard to put out the programme that I did today."
Only the Top 10 skaters from the preliminary qualifying round progress to the Short Programme on Friday, 27 January to compete against the best skaters in Europe. The Ladies Short Programme will be shown live on Eurosport at 13:00hrs.
