BUOYANT BRITISH LEAGUE WELCOMES SEVEN NEW TEAMS
The spectacular expansion of the British Water Polo League is to continue, with seven new teams elected as playing members. It means there will be eight divisions comprising 64 teams at the start of the new season.
Joining Birmingham, Hucknall, Iceni, Manchester Barracudas, Southampton and Sunderland in women's Division 3 will be:
Devonport Royal - women's polo is booming at the Plymouth-based club and BWPL entry is viewed as the next stage of development for a young squad.
Leeds Hammerheads - BWPL already boasts Leeds Sharks, so watch out for another variety of ocean predator (the Hammerheads are actually the second string of a large Leeds squad).
West London Penguin Kings have withdrawn.
In men's Division 5, we welcome these teams to compete alongside Invicta Marlins, Sheffield Dolphins and Whitgiftians:
Basildon - the modern pool at Basildon Sporting Village is the base for some serious water polo development and BWPL entry underlines the club's ambitions for the future.
Cheltenham Spartans - after triumphing at the Super 5s last season, next step-up for the BWPL champions is to introduce a youthful second team.
Dover - this fast-growing club recognises the need to bring national-standard polo to their area of Kent.
Southampton - have combined with Bournemouth and other neighbouring teams because, like Dover, better quality polo is needed in their neck of the woods.
York City - welcomed back in the national league fold after a 29-year absence, again with a young squad eager to improve.
Last BWPL weekend of the 2012 season will now take place on Sat 2nd and Sun 3rd Feb 2013 (due to a cancellation of matches in December/January)
2012 fixtures can be found here http://www.bwpl.org/Fixtures/Womens%20Div3.html
Next season BWPL 2013 - Team sheets have to be submitted by end of July 2013, to be eligible to play you must have a CAT2 registration with a home club, a dual registration with ICENI and hold a current year paid up membership with ICENI
