Topic:         Alcohol Beyond Cirrhosis

Presenter:  Kathrene Harnacker, NCC, LPC, CEAP  Many alcoholics will say that for them to drink is the equivalent of choosing to die.  In this talk, I will review the many ways that may be true.    Cirrhosis is not the only way the use of alcohol may be fatal.    The International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies Alcohol as a Group 1 Carcinogen.   Tobacco is a Group 1 carcinogen.   Other medical issues heavy drinking can cause are anemia, cardiovascular disease, dementia, infectious disease, nerve damage and pancreatitis.   These will be reviewed in the presentation.  Additionally the research on the whether or not 2 glasses of wine a day are beneficial to your health will be reviewed.

One CEU is available for each presentation and they are free for Chapter members. Chapter dues are $25.00 annually each October.  Non-members may gain 1 CEU for $10 per presentation or may join at that time. To join or renew, please mail a check with your application and professional license number, if licensed, to the address on the attached form or bring your check to the next meeting. Visitors and guests are welcome.
