Equipment - Smartphone apps

We have now released an iBats app which allows a smartphone to be directly connected to the ultrasonic detector and the geo-referenced sound files can then be automatically uploaded onto the ibats website, this replacing the need for a separate recording device, GPS and recording form. the app is availble for free! You can view instructions to use the iPhone app for the iBats project by downloading the iPhone survey protocl from the Survey Protocols page.
  • The app for iPhone is available through the iPhone's 'App Store' - just search for "iBats"
  • The app for smartphones using the Android operating system is available via the 'Market'. Examples of phones running the Android opetaing system include HTC Desire, HTC Wildfire, HTC Legend, HTC Tattoo, Google G1. However there are many other phones that will be compatible. They must include a built in GPS and a line in/mic socket.
You will need a special recording lead (male-male TRS to TRRS jack) to connect these smartphones to the bat detector. See the guide to obtaining/building a lead.
