Swami Rama Institute of Vocational Education and Research

Malethi, Uttaranchal, India

SRIVERM was established by the Trust in 2005 to give literacy, vocational, and socio-economic development to the underprivileged and underserved sections of the society in the hill district of Pauri Garhwal, Uttarkhand, deep in the Himalayas.   Following are its current initiatives:

·                    Public School

·                    Vocational Training

·                    Ayurvedic Herbal Plantation

The Public School is presently covering children up to 8th grade, with approximately 100 students (to be progressively increased every year through grade 12th). The Vocational Wing provides Vocational Training Courses in Computer Operation and Programming. Electrical Work, Tailoring and Sewing, and Plumbing.  All graduates of the vocational program receive a National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) certification. The Ayurvedic Herbal Plantation initiative provides education and training to the community in the cultivation of globally marketable herbal plants and their processing, as well as income - generation for the SRIVERM.

There is an exciting 2010 update:

The SRIVERM Bachelor of Education College has been granted certification seats for 100 Himalayan Mountain villagers.

Rosemary is now being grown for distribution mostly for oil. Poverty stricken villages nearby will be given plants and instructed on how to grow them and earn a fair market wage for their crops. (Photo: Local community members enjoying a meal at SRIVERM during a community gathering.)

We now need funds for a start-up grant for the B.Ed. college.

$23,000 needed to send. We have ~$17,000, so we need ~ $6,000.00 more to secure a grant for start-up funds for establishing the teacher's training institute at SRIVERM. Establishment of the Teacher's Training Institute will help bring SRIVERM much closer to its goal of being a financially self-sustaining institute!
