Multipopulation Models for Vehicular Traffic and Pedestrians

With this project we aim at designing innovative mathematical models and computational tools for vehicular and pedestrian traffic problems. Starting from a well established research background, that we have developed over the past few years, we plan to develop a predictive model and a simulation framework for car and pedestrian flows in urban areas, taking into account complex features such as self-organization and psychological effects of human behavior. We also expect to provide quantitative tools for forecasting and optimizing vehicular and pedestrian flows. To this purpose, we will develop new techniques suitable to solve the related optimal control problems.
