  • Sal Montanti

Sal was born in Sicily and can speak and write fluently in Italian. His mother and father are both illiterate since they both had to drop out of school in 3rd and 5th grade. It was because of what they lacked that pushed Sal to become the first person in my family to finish college.
He grew up in Garfield, New Jersey and then moved in 7th grade to Paramus, New Jersey. After finishing high school he attended Penn State University, but only went there for a year because his parents were having a difficult time paying the bills without him. It was because of this that he had to transfer, so he went to
    Rutgers University.
It was at Rutgers where he met most of his friends that helped him decide to change his major. At Penn State he knew that he wanted to go into education… that was a given. The only difference was that he changed his major from Mathematics to English. At first he was hesitant to change his major because Mathematics has always been his stronger subject. Still, he was glad that he did. Sal loves the material in this subject because it also helped him develop who he was as a person and at the same time helped him develop a voice in his writing not to mention he got a minor in a field he liked…film study.
