Message From President

John F. Kennedy once said, “Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.”  As Chairman of the IACEP and on behalf of the Board of Directors we would like to share our thoughts and our new direction for IACEP.

As you now know, there have been some changes over the past month with regard to some long standing relationships that the organization has developed.  These changes include severing ties with American Entertainment Magazine as the official publication of the IACEP and Leona Plaugh’s departure as the Executive Director of the IACEP.

I wrote in early January about ending our relationship with American Entertainment Magazine.  As I said then, the intent is to move all of our member communications online so we can redirect those resources to higher-value member benefits.  We remain grateful for AEM’s contribution to our growth and wish them well.

With regard to Leona’s departure, I want to take a moment to thank her publicly for all she has done for IACEP.  She has served the organization since its inception with loyalty, dignity and class.  She has worked tirelessly on our behalf and she will be missed.  However we are excited for her as she undertakes new opportunities and wish her all of the best in her future endeavors.  She is working with us to ensure a seamless hand off.

As we move through this transition, we find ourselves more energized than ever about the new direction I laid out in my early January letter.  I’ve received very positive feedback from members telling us that we’re on the right track and that has only increased our excitement about the action plan included in that note.

-                   Refocus the annual meeting to provide only high-quality showcase acts, increased time for sessions like Emerging Talent and Trends and roundtable discussions, relevant industry content, and a streamlined exhibit experience.

-                   Explore the most effective approach to add a second meeting each year in a region of the country different from that of the conference

-                   Continue on with Forum Calls and the IACEP Online Network

I am also extremely pleased to announce that we will be creating a new online supplier library in 2010.  We view this as a major new benefit to both our producer and supplier members.  We’ll be following up soon with more details.

You can see that a lot is happening.  IACEP continues to grow and build on its success to date and I am privileged to the board’s chair during this very exciting time.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me directly at Chairman@iacep.com.

We’ll be back to you with frequent communication to keep you up to date on the exciting work coming up and how you can participate to improve your business and your professional life.

Best,
Howard
