FRIDAY, MARCH 3,  2017


12:45 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.       Registration in Iowa Hall Dining Area

 1:45 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.        Introductions and orientation in Ballantyne Auditorium

 2:55 p.m. – 3:25 p.m.        Art Examination in Ballantyne Auditorium

 3:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.        Music Examination in Ballantyne Auditorium

 5:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.        Speech & Interview Competitions in Classrooms

 5:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.        Team Pictures in stairwell outside Iowa Hall Dining Area

* At the coach’s discretion, teams may leave the school for dinner. Teams should be back on-site no later than 15 minutes prior to their designated competition/team picture time slot.

** Decathletes should remain in the Iowa Dining Hall Area until their competition time slot is announced. Decathletes will be assembled and escorted to their appropriate classrooms at the designated time. At NO TIME should students be in the hallways unless they are exiting or staged for their designated competition time slot.

Decathletes that miss their competition escort should report to the escort staging area and NOT attempt to locate their competition room on their own.

10:05 a.m. – 10:20 a.m.     Break in Iowa Hall Dining Area (students collect calculators)

10:25 a.m. – 10:55 a.m.     Math Examination in Classrooms

11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.     Social Science Examination in Classrooms

11:30 a.m. – 12:50 p.m.     Lunch in Iowa Hall Dining Area

 1:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.         Science Examination in Classrooms

 1:45 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.         Super Quiz in Ballantyne Auditorium

 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.         Awards Banquet, DoubleTree, Cedar Rapids

* Doors to the banquet hall will not open until 5:00 p.m.

** An area to relax with restrooms is available for teams outside the banquet hall at the DoubleTree.  Team coaches may request a “late checkout” with hotel management if they desire to use at least one of their respective hotel rooms for the purpose of changing attire and/or storing personal belongings, but there is no guarantee of availability.


Essay Competition Online

The essay competition for State will be conducted online and prior to the State Competition again this year.
A practice session will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 from 7:00am to 7:00pm.

The official essay competition will take place on Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 9:30am - 11:00am.
Essays will be scored by USAD.
Detailed information will be provided for coaches of state-qualifying teams.

Forms

Student Code of Conduct, Student Registration, Transcripts, and GPA Worksheets
from Regional Competitions
will be used for the State Competition.

Optional interview forms are the responsibility of the students and coaches.
These should be delivered by students at the time of his/her interview.
If choosing to use an interview form, students should have three copies, one for each judge.

Super Quiz

Super Quiz is a collaborative event.
Students in each gpa division collaborate with each other to answer 10 questions.
There is a possible team total of 30 points.
The super quiz score does NOT count toward the team score,
but winners in both large and small schools receive a plaque and are recognized at the awards ceremony.

Banquet Tickets

The Awards Banquet will be held at the DoubleTree Hotel and Convention Center in Cedar Rapids.
Ten (10) banquet tickets are included with the registration fee.
Additional tickets can be purchased for $15 each.

The
12 top scoring small schools &
12 top scoring large schools
among all regional competitions
are invited each year to compete
at State Competition.

(Highest scoring students at each regional, if not on a state-qualifying team, are also invited to compete as individuals.)
