The Hypermedia Language Centre of the Faculty of Applied Languages, Commerce and Communication was set up first in 1991 in Clermont-Ferrand. The aim was to create an innovative language learning environment for our intermediate and advanced level students to increase their proficiency in spoken English. At the time it was probably the first multimedia language laboratory of its kind but the main aim has been to develop the concept of a communicative laboratory or learning space. In-house software has been created to support this idea, using digital technology for both oral comprehension and expression in order to enhance the overall learning experience of our students.
In 2003, the Hypermedia Language Centre won the European Award for Languages. This aware is delivered nationally on behalf of the European Commission for innovating projects in the field of teaching and learning modern languages.
