Mission: "Located in Central Library of the Minneapolis Public Library system, the New Americans Center provides volunteer-led conversation circles and other language programming; materials and software for self-directed study of the English language; brochures, books, web links, and referral information about housing, education, childcare, employment, health, social services, transportation, legal aid, and cultural issues; citizenship study and preparation materials; as well as speakers, workshops and other special events." Facilitate English-language conversation circles. The commitment is two hours/week, which includes one to two hours of conversation-circle facilitation and up to one hour for connecting with patrons individually (could include one-on-one tutoring), filling out the volunteer workbook, conducting limited research (usually computer-based), or completing any other tasks related to conversation circles or to the New Americans Center. Tuesdays from 4pm to 6pm and Wednesday from 4pm to 6pm. Conversation Circles are also held at other Libraries including: East Lake Library, 2727 East Lake Street, Tuesday 6:30-8pm, Northeast Library, 2200 Central Ave NE, Tuesday 5:30-7:30, and the Franklin Library 1314 East Franklin Street Saturday 11:30am-1pm. Attend the once-per-semester teacher meeting.
