Mission: Mission A.C.E.S., an after-school tutoring/mentoring program, uses sports to engage inner-city youth in learning and provides opportunities for them to build the skills necessary to succeed academically, develop personally, and become responsible, contributing community members. About Athletes Committed to Educating Students (A.C.E.S.) is an after-school tutoring/mentoring organization for inner-city fourth through eighth graders. Founded in 1994, A.C.E.S. began with 13 students at Wilder School (Powderhorn Community School) in Minneapolis. A.C.E.S. now serves over 350 students annually at four Twin Cities? program sites: Maxfield Magnet and Monroe Community in St. Paul, and Richard Green Central and Cityview Magnet in Minneapolis. A.C.E.S. program sites are in lower-income areas and at lower-achieving schools. ? Sports-themed curriculum that emphasizes interactive learning via a three-step (Introduction, learn, practice) process ? Involvement of all of the local professional sports teams (Lynx, Saints, Thunder, Timberwolves, Twins, Vikings and Wild) to help inner city youth achieve academic and personal success.
