General Plot Summary (Contains spoilers!):

This film adaptation of the popular book series with the same name revolves around a girl named Katniss and a boy named Peeta. These two live in a futuristic world where a centralized government, The Capitol, holds power over 12 impoverished Districts. The Capitol has riches and advanced technology while the Districts have virtually no technology and are struggling to get by. Because of an uprising that took place before the film starts, there is now an annual event known as the Hunger Games that each District must participate in. Katniss volunteers when her sister is chosen to participate, and Peeta is chosen from a bowl of names. The Hunger Games event is where two people from each District, a boy and a girl, (24 in total) enter the arena and fight to the death until a lone victor stands. Throughout this film, Katniss must face the challenges of winning over sponsors, who send her supplies during the games if they are so inclined, helping the people she grows to care about, and ultimately survive. During the games, the Districts watch as it is selectively broadcasted by the Capitol. The Capitol also has a game control room where they manipulate the environment and drive participants towards one another to make for a better show. Eventually, Katniss and Peeta survive and win the games together, the first time in history to crown two victors.

Katniss Everdeen: The main character in the film, from District 12. She volunteers to enter the games after her sister Prim is chosen to enter the Games. She ultimately wins the games with Peeta.

Peeta Mellark: He is also from District 12 and is chosen to enter the Hunger Games. He also wins with Katniss after they team up in the arena.

Prim Everdeen: Katniss' younger sister. This is her first year eligible to be chosen for the games and is highly unlikely she will be. However, she is chosen and her older sister Katniss volunteers to take her place.

Haymitch Abernathy: He is the previous winner from District 12 and mentors Katniss and Peeta prior to the Games. He is their mentor explaining how the games works and tips for staying alive. During the games, he convinces the Game Maker to not kill Katniss when she does something the government didn't like. He also helped get Katniss sponsors and supplies during the game.
