Hugo Alves Trio
The Hugo Alves Trio plays originals, standards and American Jazz Songbook songs with no harmonic instrument. This challenge came after the release of the Taksi Trio album (2005), at the time considered one of the Best Portuguese Jazz Albums. A concert that has an adaptable repertoire, suitable whether is for a large room, an open air space or even more intimate venues.
Hugo Alves & Greg Burk Duo – Double Dose
The Duo Hugo Alves & Greg Burk was born in Italy, in 2008, when the two musicians crossed paths while teaching and took the opportunity to play together. The symbiosis was immediate leading the musicians into a search for a common project. The reunion took place in 2009 in Portugal, in a four concert’s tour: Centro Cultural de Belém, Centro Cultural de Cascais, Clube de Tavira and Museu de S. Brás Jazz Club.
All these concerts were recorded live, ultimately leading to the Double Dose album release. The repertoire includes original songs from both musicians and a personal approach on some originals as Summertime and You Do not Know What Love Is (Greg Burk at www.gregburk.com)
Hugo Alves Quartet - Given Soul
Given Soul is a project launched on album in 2007, considered one of the best Portuguese Jazz Album of that year, features, alongside Hugo Alves, Pablo Romero (SPN) on electric piano, Rodrigo Monteiro (PTG) on double bass, and Michael Lauren (USA) on drums. This is another originals album but this time done with a very special melodic editing. Hugo Alves reveals its qualities as composer and soloist, all so many times recognized by both Portuguese and international Press. José Carlos dos Santos (Art Director of Braga Jazz) writes on the liner notes "Hugo Alves is a self made musician, made of that mass that real Jazz musicians are made of…"Given Soul" is his third work, revealing an exception trumpeter, but specially his effort to track new paths and new sonorities, with eyes to the future. His partners in this adventure don't leave their credits behind..."
