Monthly Meetings - are usually held on the 2nd Monday of the month at Central Methodist Church (new room) from 18:00 to 19:15 pm
Family History Surgeries - are usually held on the 1st Saturday of the month at Hucknall Library 10:00 to 12:00am
The members of Hucknall Local History Group are volunteers who have a keen interest in local history and who wish to help preserve the heritage of the local area and to assist other people with their research into local and family history by making available information and resources thy have gathered and also by providing a Family History workshop which is held at Hucknall Library on the 1st Saturday of the month.
It is important to stress that the members are volunteers who generously give their knowledge and time freely as and when then can. Whilst we are always willing to assist anybody with their research, we cannot carry out the research on your behalf. What we can do is to try to provide help and information, as and when we have free time available to do so, in order to point you in the right direction to further your research. We try to respond to all questions as quickly and as completely as we can but we do ask for your patience and understanding as we do have many other people to assist as well as trying to find time for our own research.
Hucknall Local History Group was formed in 2003 under the name "Hucknall Library Local History Group" with the aim of providing a forum for people to explore the history of Hucknall, this works in several ways:-
We undertake projects both in the community and for the library to help preserve the history of the town.
We provide an umbrella for the varied and diverse strands which make up the study of local history within the Hucknall area.
We also assist people with their research by the provision of events such as Family History Surgeries held in Hucknall Library on the 1st Saturday of each month from 10 till 12am
At the 2009 AGM, it was decided to drop the word "Library" from the groups name as changes to opening hours have meant that we can no longer meet at the library and the group is now known as Hucknall Local History Group and currently meets at Central Methodist Church in Baker Street, Hucknall on the 2nd Monday of the month 18:15 to around 19:30.
The group have already undertaken a number of local projects including taking part in an oral history project called "Locally Speaking" and the production of a book titled "Locally Speaking, Hucknall in the 1930's and 1940's" which was produced with the aid of a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
At the 2012 AGM it was agreed that we should seek closer ties with the Hucknall Heritage Society, in particular to suggest that our meetings should be held on the same night as theirs in order to reduce costs by sharing the same venue. This was agreed by the members of the Hucknall Heritage society who decided to change their meeting night to the same as ours, as their meetings start after ours finishes.
At the respective 2013 AGMs it was decided to take this further by combining the resources of the two groups. A new constitution was ratified by both AGMs and the Hucknall Local History Group and The Hucknall Family History Group will now exist as subgroups under the umbrella of the Hucknall Heritage Society. Both groups will continue to provide exactly the same programmes they have always provided.
