In the future every home will have a sophisticated robot arm, to do tasks such as washing the dishes, walking the dog, and helping us with our personal needs. But why wait until the future and have something really sophisticated when you can start little by little and create a simple robotic arm.
To build our robotic arm we used an "Edge Robotic Arm Kit".
All there was needed to do was assemble the kit. There was no soldering needed, we just needed to follow the instructions very carefully.
The robot consists of five axes of movement controlled by a remote. There is a gripper that you can command to open and close, a wrist motion of 120 degrees, an extensive elbow range of 300 degrees, a base rotation of 270 degrees, base motion of 180 degrees, vertical reach of 15 inches, horizontal reach of 12.6 inches, and lifting capacity of 100g. It also includes an LED spotlight on the gripper that illuminates your work.
Through the process of assembling it we didn't have much difficulty. The difficult part was figuring out what we had assembled wrong after we were all done. But to fix it we disassembled the areas of the robot that weren't functioning properly and rebuilt it. After a few times of rebuilding it we finally succeeded!
