Intro:when touching a hot pan's handle, your hand draws back st what seems to be simultaneously. This is due to human reflexes. A reflex is triggered by a stimulus(five senses),then interneurons actiavte motor neurons, which creates the jerk away away from the stimulus.
Materials:
cotton balls
gloves
reflex hammer
stopwatch
tranparency sheet
Procedures:
Patellar reflex
Subject:Sit on the edge of a table with legs hanging freely
Using reflex hammer, strike the subject just below the knee cap
Achilles reflex
Subject:Sit on edge of table and remove left shoe or sock
Wearing gloves, researcher holds the bottom of subjects foot and strikes subject Achilles tendon with reflex hammer
Babinski reflex
Subject: Sit on edge of table and remove left shoe or sock
Wearing gloves, researcher holds subject's ankle and stroke the heel up towars the ball of the subject's foot
Pupillary reflex
Subject:closes one eye for a minute
After the minute has passed, the researcher looks at both of the subject's eyes before allowing the subject to open the closed eye
Blink reflex
Subject: holds a tranparent sheet in front of there face
The researcher will throw only a cotton ball towards the subject's eye
Saftey precautions:
Wash hands with soap before test, strike hammer softly(NOT WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE), and follow the guidelines
