Intro: In this experiment we will be making a bottle to explode using only toilet bowl cleaner and aluminum foil. The Works toilet bowl cleaner can be the only toilet bowl cleaner used for this experiment.
Question: What amount of aluminum foil balls would cause a bottle to explode when mixed with 113mL of toilet bowl cleaner (The Works)?
Hypothesis: My hypothesis was the more foil balls add to the bottle of toilet bowl cleaner, the bigger the explosion.
Materials:
7 empty water bottles
Foil paper
Toilet Bowl Cleaner (The Works)
Ruler
Marker
Safety Goggles
Graduated Cylinders
Safety Regulations: Before conducting the experiment be sure to put on your safety goggles. After you have poured the required amounts of The Works into the water bottle stand far away from the bottle to avoid injuries. This experiment needs to be done outside and you must have adult supervision during the experiment at ALL TIMES.
Procedures: Use the ruler and the marker to mark out 2x2 of foil paper and make them into little balls. for each bottle put a different amount of foil balls they will be counted by fives. All together you should have 105 balls. Use the marker to label the bottles 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 for the amount of foil balls that will go into each bottle. In a graduated cylinder pour 113mL of The Works toilet bowl cleaner inside of the extra bottle and use it to mark the amount of toilet bowl cleaner going into each bottle. Pour the toilet bowl cleaner back inside of the graduated cylinder and dispose of the bottle. starting with bottle marked 5, *unscrew the lid and pour 113mL of The Works into bottle, close the lid tightly, set down the bottle and RUN!!! ( you should stand at least 10 feet from the bottle). It should explode within 2 minutes ( If the bottle has not exploded within the 2 minutes then it will not explode). Record you results on a Data table*
*repeat for each bottle*
Data Collection:
Results: When five foil balls were added to the bottle of toilet bowl cleaner, it began the exploding process but did not quite explode. When we put ten balls in next bottle, it exploded much louder and the explosion was bigger. Each time we increased the amount of foil we put into each bottle the explosion would be larger and louder, but it would take a longer time for the bottle to explode.

Conclusion: For a bigger explosion you would want to start off with a lot of aluminum balls but it will be slower. For a quicker product then add a small amount of aluminum balls which will keep the reaction smaller.
