MATERIALS

White T-Shirt
Permanent Markers
Plastic Cup
Rubben Band
Rubbing Alcohol(70%)
Dropper Bottle

Procedure

First , put the plastinc cup to the middle of the t-shirt position the opening of the cup directly under the section of the shirt that you want to decorate.
Second, you draw any desing that you want to be in your t-shirt.Example you can draw dots,trangles,lines circles
Third, is you squeeze about 20 drops of rubbing alcohol to the desing that you made.Rubbing alcohol slowly in the center of the design and allow the molecules of ink to spread outward from the center. Then you will start to that ink spreads in circular pattern
Fourth,drop as much or little rubbing alcohol,but be careful not to let pattern spread beyond the edges of the cup.
The last think is that remove the cup from the t-shirt and waint about 5 min to let the t-shirt to dry.

Science Behind It

My chemistry Demo is about Tie Dye.What you do is design a t-shirt with permanent sharpie markers (can be different colors). Once you make shapes and different designs on the t-shirt the ink will spread in a pretty circular pattern due to the rubbing alcohol. Since the permanet markers are hydrophobic the ink will dissolve easily once you pour robbing alcohol on it, but if you were to pour water on top of the designed pattern it won't dissolve because water is soluble. Permament markers are non-polar but water is polar, that is why water won't make a tie dye.
