Fluorescent Chemistry
What's it about?
This is before the black light is displayed.
My demo experiment topic is fluorescent chemistry. If you are wondering
what fluorescent chemistry is, well it is basically substances that glow (like
glow sticks). The scientific explanation is that fluorescence is the light that
appears when energy is given off by ultraviolet light. And this energy is
moved from a low state to a higher (excited) state of energy. This energy
needs to be released somehow and fluorescent substances release this
energy in the form of light (and then the energy level drops back down).
Materials:
Fluorescent dye set (from arbor scientific) it contains:
Four dyes: purple, red, clear blue, and yellow/green
Four pipettes
Two gloves
Additional materials:
Clear cups or beakers
Procedures:
1) Put on your gloves.
2) Take one of the pipettes and one of the dye bottles.
3) Use the pipette to get the dye and place 2-3 drops of the dye into the
cup.
4) Add water to substance
5) Repeat steps 2-4 for the other three dyes.
Pictures for some of the materials are uploaded on my picassa.
