Priority Research Topics

The following research topics were identified as priorities by the Hawaii State Department of Education (HIDOE) complex area superintendents and over 100 respondents to a stakeholder survey, including HIDOE employees and members of the Hawaii State Board of Education and the Hawaii State Legislature. This list will be continually updated, based on periodic input from HIDOE employees, stakeholders, and HPERC.

Research in the following priority areas is encouraged:

  • Teacher training
  • Technology-supported curriculum/use of technology in the classroom
  • English language learner services and support
  • Teacher evaluation
  • Graduation rate
  • Model schools/best practices
  • NCLB requirement waivers/redefining school success
  • Instructional time
  • Special education services
