I have more books than I know what to do with: sci-fi, crime, history, antiques, photography, football and of course natural history with a big focus on birds. Working in a library I have also read extensively outside my own collection making full use of the inter-library loan network.

Many natural history books are extremely expensive. This does not mean that they are unavailable to you. I urge you to make use of your local library. If they don't have a particular title in stock, ask them if they can obtain it for you from another library - through the inter-library loan scheme - in most cases they will charge you for the service (on average £1), and you may have to wait a little while before you get the book. Ninety percent of the time, after a few weeks you will be able to read it.

When and if you do come to purchase a book, online shops represent good value for money. I buy from online shops, at RSPB reserves, high street shops and second-hand dealers or via ebay.

I hope you enjoy the reviews: do give me your feedback. As I increase their number I will try to categorise the sections accordingly. If you have read a book I haven't reviewed and you think is worth including, drop me an email.
