About me

back to home

I am Nathalie Schorbon aged 45.  I've lived in London all my life, and currently live in Stoke Newington with my partner Carol.

For as long as I can remember, I've been interested in natural history and I began birdwatching about eight years ago. I have really enjoyed learning about birds and their behaviour and have been lucky enough to see some great birds in beautiful British countryside. I now consider myself reasonably competent at it although I still make plenty of mistakes!

I soon realised that I visited a lot of nature reserves run by various organisations like the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) and I started to look more closely at the amount of work they put in to protecting our landscape and wildlife.

I very much wanted to be part of that work and give something back so I started volunteering for the RSPB in 2001. It was one of the best decisions I ever made! Carol and I give a lot of our time to the RSPB and we both find it extremely rewarding. I would encourage anyone with a bit of spare time to volunteer - it's fun, you meet great people and it gives you a great deal of satisfaction. And there are all sorts of things you can do, from office work, to reedbed planting, to showing people birds.  I concentrate on the people engagement work and I love it.

One of the best things we have ever done is be part of a team of volunteers showing people the peregrines that roost on the tower of the Tate Modern in central London.  This summer more than 44,000 people looked through our telescopes at these wonderful birds. We met people from all over the world and made many new 'friends' for the fastest animal on the planet.

I am becoming more involved in similar projects and hoping to introduce many new birdwatchers to this wonderful hobby. That is why I created this website, I wanted to share my knowledge and experience with as many people as possible.

My other passion is my beloved Tottenham Hotspur FC - I am a season ticket holder - and we've had many a happy half time watching kestrels and bats fly over the crowd at White Hart Lane.

I hope you enjoy this website.  I'm keen to get feedback, and I hope that those of you new to birdwatching get as much enjoyment from your new hobby as I have over the years.
