Professor Howard Pong Yuen LAM is currently Director (Marketing and Communications) of School of Management and Economics, CUHK (SZ). He is also adjunct associate professor in the department of Marketing, Business School, the Chinese University of HK. Prior to joining CUHK (SZ), he was professor and EMBA associate director at the Chinese University of HK.


Before he became a professor, he was practitioner with rich commercial experience and a record of sustained leadership and innovation for over 25 years. He had worked at P&G, McDonald’s, Coca-Cola and Lee Kum Kee Health Products Group, and gradually moved up the ranks from brand assistant, brand manager, marketing director, general manager consumer marketing to senior vice president. With his excellent marketing strategy and cross-functional leadership, he has won several global awards at the Coca-Cola Company. One award is the best new product launch for Minute Maid juice drink with pulp. It is also the first juice drink from a developing country, and is then rolled out to the world. Other awards include the best brand marketing asset program, the best implementation of marketing communication campaign, and the best in show for carbonated beverages.


Professor Lam has taught undergraduate, MBA and EMBA programs at the Chinese University of HK. He has also taught joint finance MBA program of TsingHua University and the Chinese University of HK. As for practical innovation experience, he is an angel investor in the HK Business Angel Network and has invested and given advice to several startup companies. Some of these companies have successfully got admission into HK Science and Technology Park incubation programs.


He has undergraduate degree in computer science, MBA and PhD (Marketing) degrees from the Chinese University of HK, and a Master of Science degree in financial management from the University of London. He has also passed all required examinations by the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA). He is a Harvard Business School Alumnus after receiving the general manager program executive education.


He has published a book with other co-authors in 2016. The title is “Brand Connection: Best Practices of The Top Ten Marketers”. This book was the best selling book among all books in finance and business in year 2016 at the Eslite Bookstore in Hong Kong. He also has books published by Pearson and Tsinghua University Publishing, and an influential paper on dual branding strategy published by Business Horizons and is also available at the Harvard Business Publishing web site.
