Fall Letter from the HCWBA President

Dear Members,

Thank you all for a wonderful start to our year. Our Volunteer-A-Thon is underway, and we have a fantastic self-reporting tool on the website. Please visit the website today at https://sites.google.com/site/howardcountywba/home and report the number of hours you have volunteered—for anything—since September 1, 2013. Let’s reach our goal of 1500 hours!

The HCWBA chose the Domestic Violence Center as the recipient of our charity this year, and we have already made an impact! In October, we fielded a team of bowlers for the Domestic Violence Center’s Hope Bowl. Thanks to our team of bowlers—Jessica Zadjura and the Simpson Family—and our generous donors, the HCWBA raised a total of $870.00 for the DVC. Thank you all for your donations of time and money!

Looking forward to the holidays, the HCWBA is adopting two families for Thanksgiving and one family for the December Holiday Project through the DVC. We will have Happy Hour events to gather our group donations on November 7 and December 5. Save the dates, come out, support our efforts and have fun! Please see the attached flyers for more details. Be sure to RSVP and coordinate your donations with my office. Your charity during the holidays is much appreciated and will greatly affect the lives of those less fortunate.

In addition to our volunteer and charitable work, the HCWBA will continue our series with Life/Career Coach Traci Spiegel. In her presentation to us in September, Traci guided us in identifying our own personal GPS system to help us create better work/life balance for ourselves. At our luncheon on November 12, Traci will lead us through a fun exercise that will help us develop a personal goal matrix to further help us with work/life balance. Aida’s will continue to be our venue for the luncheon, and we are thrilled with the outstanding service and food Aida’s continues to deliver. Please see the attached flyer, and RSVP for this fantastic event.

As we draw to a close for 2013, the HCWBA is joining again with the HCBA to host a joint holiday party. This year’s event will be at the Stanford Grill on December 9. Save the date and look for a flyer with more details coming soon. Proceeds from the Joint Holiday Party also will benefit the DVC.

We have many more fun events on tap in the New Year. Continue to keep an eye out for updates. We look forward to seeing you, and hope you will introduce a friend to our organization. I hope we can continue to strengthen the HCWBA and support one another in a purposeful and fun way.

Many thanks,
Natalie Drinkard
