Fischer Flugmechanik (FF) was founded 1979 by Hanno Fischer based of his 30-years job experience as technical director of Rhein-Flugzeugbau GmbH (RFB), to implement his acquired knowledge in research, evolution and manufacturing of civil and military aircrafts, as well as military ground effect vehicles to business application.

Based on work by Dr. Alexander Lippisch and Hanno Fischer together with his business partner Klaus Matjasic developed the first civil ground effect vehicles called Airfish.

   The Airfoil Development GmbH (AFD GmbH) was founded 1997 by Klaus Matjasic and Hanno Fischer to evolve and produce, commissioned by an asian investor, an 8-seat ground effect vehicle by using the Airfish technology, Airfish-8

   In result of this project the AFD GmbH gets the official approval as the first worldwide producer in case of ground effect vehicles by the "Germanischer Lloyd". The AFD GmbH also gets the certification DIN ISO 9001 by the "Technischer Überwachungsverein" (TÜV) for deplopment and production of ground effect vehicles.

   Based on decades of experience in research oft he ground effect by Fischer Flugmechanik and its realisation into commercial products done by Airfoil Development GmbH, the German Government "Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung" (BMBF) in cooperation with the research institute for "Binnenschiffbau Duisburg" (VBD), pushed further continously the developing of the second generation of ground effect vehicles, the protected Hoverwing Technology. The technical demonstrator Hoverwing 2VT, which is working in this advanced and patent protected technology, is another milestone in respect of the scaling to major sizes up to 200 seats.

   In order to proof the Hoverwing concept, a scaled down version of the targeted Hoverwing- 80 in scale 3.35 was designed and built together with the Versuchsanstalt für Binnenschiffbau e.V. at Duisburg (Duisurg Towing Tank).

   This scaled down craft is a 2 seated test bed, Hoverwing 2VT, which first flew 1997, and since then covered app. 5,000 km distance during several test series. During these testflights in Holland and in the Baltic Sea, the craft had demonstrated that all required performances and characteristics are fulfilled in accorderance with the predictions.

Τα σκάφη Hoverwing 80 ή FLYSHIP 80 δεν κατασκευάζονται πλέον από την Γερμανική εταιρεία FLYSHIP GmbH, που έκλεισε από το 2007, αλλά σαν κλάση ανήκουν στην Κορεάτικη εταιρεία Wingship Technology Corp.

   The last tests have been done in march 2001 on Lake Baldeney and gave further valuable results for the design of the next size Hoverwing.

First photo of WSH-500 (Hoverwing 50) prototype on May 2011 at Gunsan factory in Korea by Wingship Heavy Industries Corp. (subsdiary company of Wingship Technology Corp.) WSH-500 is a 47 passenger seats (+3 crew) WIG craft at crusing speed of 100 knots (180km/h). This craft will start operation next March (2012) in Korea (port of Gunsan) by Hanil Express Ltd. with certification by Lloyd's Register UK

Great news: WST Corp. have finalized the first phase of builder’s trial of WSH-500 which was planned for this year. It recorded 73knots of indicated air speed (IAS) in Ground Effect mode. It showed a wonderful pitch stability and performance.
Now, we are dragging the craft out of the water for modification of some parts which have been identified during the builder’s trial. We expect that modification would be ended by the end next January (2012).
